Anne Mahon

AUTHOR + PAST CHANCELLOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

SEPTEMBER 2025

Anne Mahon’s life work focuses on hope and exists at the crossroads of storytelling, community-building, philanthropy and education. She has built a reputation for lending her talents and spirit to the causes of the disempowered.

Anne has written three books which tell the stories of local marginalized communities: Overcome: Stories of Women Who Grew Up in the Child Welfare System, Redemption: Stories of Hope, Resilience and Life After Gangs, and The Lucky Ones: African Refugees Stories of Extraordinary Courage. All author proceeds are donated to a charity that supports the community each book represents. Her next book will tell stories of residential school survivors and is written in relationship with the National Indigenous Residential School Museum of Canada (and the community of Long Plain First Nation). Anne enjoys interviewing her book participants just as much as she enjoyed interviewing Michelle Obama in 2019.

Anne has been a committed volunteer for 40 years. She served two terms as the 14th Chancellor of the University of Manitoba. She is the incoming Leader-In-Residence of the University of Manitoba’s President Student Leadership Program. She founded and facilitates the Book Mates Book Club at the Winnipeg Women’s Correctional Center and sits on the national board of Book Clubs For Inmates. She has volunteered extensively with Winnipeg organizations. In 2026 she will co-chair the United Way of Winnipeg’s Campaign. She is a member of the International Women’s Forum and UNICEF’s Women UNlimited.

Her spirit name is Waabishkaa Miigwanese Ndihznikas Little White Feather and her clan is turtle.
