Athena Leadership is pleased to present the Honourable Sharon Carstairs, P. C. as our April featured mentor on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. One of Manitoba’s most distinguished political leaders, Sharon Carstairs became Leader of the Liberal Party of Manitoba in 1984. She was elected to the Legislative Assembly in Manitoba in 1986 and led the Liberal Party in Manitoba to a monumental election gain. She became the first woman to lead the Official Opposition in a Canadian Legislative Assembly in 1988 and remained active in political life throughout the 1990s being appointed to the Senate then serving as the first woman to be Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate. Amongst so many other accomplishments, she is an advocate for women and children and a defender of human rights.

Athena Leadership is pleased to launch the Athena Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship Fund! Following Athena Leadership’s core values of empowerment, integrity, and philanthropy – and aligned with our mandate – we strive to set a positive example for others through community involvement and providing opportunity.

The Athena Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship will be awarded annually to a young woman (18 – 24 years old) who exemplifies our values, as well as the characteristics of the Greek goddess Athena (wisdom, strategy, and heroism). She will have a proven track record in making a difference in other people’s lives through strong community involvement and a commitment to her own professional development.

Athena Leadership is proud to announce Vanessa Kunderman’s nomination to the YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction awards, in the Young Woman of Distinction category! Vanessa, a Financial Security Advisor and current Athena Leadership member, has an outstanding track record of leadership and community impact which earned her nomination for the award. She has selflessly dedicated her life to providing opportunity and education to others, and improving health in facet of life – financial, physical, emotional, and more. She is a spokesperson for the Canadian Cancer Society, a celebrated Creative Communication (RRC) graduate, a published author and artist, the founder of BOSS (a wellness blog to educate and empower others on Body, Order, Strength, and Spirit), committee member of LITE (Local Investment Toward Employment), and cancer survivor.

Vanessa was also named one a 2012 Top 30 most influential people under 30 by The Uniter, and was co-founder of the award-winning SANDBOX magazine, amongst many other accomplishments. Good luck at the YMCA-YWCA awards, Vanessa!

Athena Leadership is pleased to welcome globally recognized civility expert Lew Bayer as our next featured mentor.

Lew is Canada’s leading expert on civility at work. An accomplished author and national columnist, Lew specializes in social intelligence and culturally competent communications. Founder of The Center for Cultural Competence, she is CEO of the multinational training group CivilityExperts.com and president of the International Civility Trainers’ Consortium. Her distinguished awards include Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur in International Business and the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI) first Canadian Civility Star Award in 2010.

Athena Leadership’s members will learn all things etiquette including the do’s and don’ts of corporate networking, professional presentation, dinner galas (“which fork do I use?”), and more.

We are pleased to announce our Founder & President, Lindy Norris, is a finalist for a Future Leader of Manitoba award, one of only three, in the business/professional category.

The award recognizes and honours a young Manitoban who is quickly making a name for themselves in the local business community, while at the same time, is also making a concerted effort to give back to the community. The winner will be a strong advocate who promotes and is passionate about Manitoba.

The Future Leaders of Manitoba Council (FLMC) believes that the future of our province relies on our ability to encourage and attract exceptional young people to live, work, and thrive, in Manitoba. The 5th Annual Awards Night will be held on January 24, 2013 at Fort Garry Place. Congratulations to all finalists!

Athena Leadership is thrilled to have been recently featured on Shaw TV’s “Go Winnipeg” show for our “Dress for Success” clothing drive. Athena Leadership members were thrilled to collect new and gently used business attire for The Clothes Closet, a South Winnipeg Family Information Centre initiative that provides clothing free of charge to women with financial restrictions seeking new employment and attending job interviews.

The world of professional networking, job recruitment, and relationship building has never been greater and more transparent. Take charge of your own brand by updating your profile on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, your resume, or wherever you’re putting your face, with a new professional headshot.

Athena Leadership is pleased to offer men and women professional headshot sessions for ONE DAY ONLY on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Tripwire Media Group Studios, Unit 404 – 250 McDermot Ave. We are scheduling on a first come, first serve basis so don’t delay. You’ll receive all raw photos taken plus one edited photo of choice.

Sessions are 20 minutes max so if you are running late, your session will be cut short. We will accept cash or cheque only. Receipts will be issued. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session.
